In 2019, the Pittsburgh Basketball Club reached a major milestone when it celebrated its 25th Anniversary. Many, many talented players participated in the leagues through these years. A poll of the coaches who participated in the league from 2015- 2019 designated these 13 player’s worthy of being considered the league’s top players for this time period for our annual 5-year anniversary designations.
The players are listed in no particular order, but they were players who helped build the foundation of tradition our players of both today and tomorrow continue to grow that has become the Pittsburgh Basketball Club.
25th Anniversary Team
Daylon Carter 6’5 Ambridge Daylon was the cornerstone of a basketball resurgence at Ambridge under Coach Mark Jula. As a 3-year starter, Daylon routinely led Ambridge into both the PIAA and WPIAL playoffs. Daylon continued his career at Shippensburg University.
Donovan Johnson 6’7 Moon Area- Donovan is the third member of the Johnson family to be recognized on the PBC Anniversary teams. “Puff” as he is known in Western PA basketball circles led Moon to a state championship under Coach Adam Kaufman. As one of the most highly recruited players in the country, Donovan his continued his college career in the ACC at North Carolina University under legendary coach, Roy Williams.
Ethan Morton 6’6 Butler- A much ballyhooed Junior high and Grade school scorer, Ethan lived up to all the hype in becoming one of Western Pa’s all time shooting guards at Butler High School under Coach Matt Clement. As one of the most highly recruited players in the country, Ethan continued his college career in the Big Ten at Purdue University.
Coletrane Washington 6’5 Quaker Valley- Another in a long line of Quaker Valley basketball greats, Coletrane maintained the tradition of prolific scores from QV and continued the amazing Championship tradition under Head Coach Mike Mastrionni. Sheldon signed with Drexel University out of High School.
James Ellis 6’11 Westinghouse- James became the best big man to come out of the city in over a decade and led Westinghouse to a City League runners-up position his senior year under Head Coach Eugene Wilson. James stayed local after high school and continued his college career at Duquesne University under Coach Keith Dambrot.
Jarrod Simmons 6’8 Moon Area- Jarrod excelled at Moon High School under Coach Adam Kaufman (a member of our 10-year Anniversary team) After a prolific Prep school career, Jarrod returned to Moon High School to lead the team to a WPIAL 5A championship and a birth in the state playoffs. He continued his collegiate career in the Ivy League at the University of Pennsylvania.
Rob Carmody 6’4 Mars- A much ballyhooed Junior high and Grade school scorer, Robby lived up to all the hype in becoming one of Western Pa’s all-time 3 point shooting guards at Mars High School under his father Rob Carmody, Sr. After winning a WPIAL championship, Rob continued his playing career in the ACC at Notre dame under legendary coach, Mike Brey.
Nelly Cummings 5’11 Lincoln Park – One of Western Pa’s most prolific scorers in Western PA history, Nelly capped an amazing 4-year starting career under Coach Mike Bariski with a WPIAL Championship victory. Nelly continued his college career at Bowling Green University and transferred to Colgate.
Chucky Humphries 6’6 Aliquippa- The cornerstone of back to back WPIAL championships, he led Aliquippa to an undefeated 30-0 state championship under Coach Nick Lackovich. After playing at Polk Junior College under PBC Hall of Fame coach Matt Furjanic, Chucky completed his college career at Division II powerhouse Indiana University of Pennsylvania under coach Joe Lombardi
Dustin Sleva- 6’8 Montour- Dustin was a 2-year starter at Montour High School under Coach Adam Kaufman, leading teams to the WPIAL and PIAA playoffs. Dustin continued his playing career at Shippensburg University, where he was a Division II All American.
Dan Petcash 6’2 Pine Richland- Dan was a 3-year letterman and 2 time All Section player for Coach Jeff Ackerman. Scored over 1,000 career points and led his teams to both the WPIAL and PIAA playoffs. Dan continued his college career at Binghamton University.
Nick Smith 6’2 North Hills – Nick was a 3-year letterman and 2 time All Section player for Coach Buzz Gabos. Scored over 1,000 career points and led his teams to both the WPIAL and PIAA playoffs. Nick continued his college career at Division II Nova Southeastern University.
Jackson Blaufeld 6’4 Allderdice –Jackson led Allderdice to 4 straight City League championships and being named City League MVP. Jackson continued his playing career at Dartmouth University
