PBC MOURNS PASSING OF HALL OF FAME COACH JACK BURIK, SR.

The Pittsburgh Basketball Club wishes to extend its condolences to the family of PBC Hall of Fame member Jack Burik, Sr., who passed away July 17, 2019.

Coach Burik was a highly successful coach at Bishop Canevin High School and at St. Malachy Catholic. Beyond the many victories achieved on the sideline were the hundreds of lives he touched as an educator. Coach was beloved by all and will be missed by the many people whose lives were better having his wisdom and guidance.

Coach Burik was inducted into the PBC Hall of Fame in 2014 and is one of only 3 families where both father and son were inducted into the PBC Hall of Fame.

KAUFMAN AND BARISKI NAMED 2019 CETRONE AWARD WINNERS

Moon Head Coach Adam Kaufman and Lincoln Park Head Coach Mike Bariski have been named the winners of the 2019 PBC Dick Cetrone Coach of the Year award.

The Moon 2018-19 season speaks for itself. 28-2 overall record, Section Champion, WPIAL 5A runners-up as well as PIAA 5A Champions. Truly one of the best seasons in Moon Basketball history.

The Lincoln Park 2018-19 season was equally amazing. 27-4 overall record, Section Champion, WPIAL 3A Champion as well as PIAA 3A Champions.

The Cetrone Award is named after legendary Sto-Rox Basketball Coach Dick Cetrone, who was the founding father of the Sto-Rox Basketball dynasty, winning 1 State championship, 5 WPIAL Championships as well as 10 Section Titles. Coach Cetrone’s 1983 State Championship team was Pennsylvania’s last 32-0 undefeated state champion. The feat has since been matched by New Castle (31-0 in 2014) and Aliquippa (30-0 in 2016).

Adam and Mike will be presented with there award at the 2020 Pgh HS Classic at Montour High School at half time of a game to be determined on January 26, 2020.

 

2019 PBC FALL LEAGUE TIPS OFF SEPTEMBER 23-25

The Pittsburgh Basketball Club is proud to host our 25th annual Fall League. This year’s leagues will be held at Central Catholic HS on Monday nights beginning September 23 and on Wednesday nights at Montour, Moon and Ambridge beginning September 25.

A league for small schools (3A-1A) will be held on Tuesday/Wednesday nights at Sto-Rox Middle School.

We are also very pleased to add a JV Fall league on Wednesday nights, also at Moon High School. 

Space is extremely limited! The leagues have practically pre-booked to capacity! Each team will play 6 regular season games and we are proud to announce a Fall League Championship playoff! Please find the application below.

YOFAN NAMED WOVCHKO AWARD WINNER AS SUMMER LEAGUE MVP

Congratulations to Fox Chapel Sophomore Eli Yofan on being named the 2019 recipient of the Edward A. Wovchko Award as PBC Summer League Most Valuable Player. Eli averaged 24.3 points a game in leading Fox Chapel to there first PBC Summer League championship in school history.

Eli will be honored the weekend of January 25/26, 2020 during a game to be determined at the PBC High School Classic during PBC Hall of Fame weekend.

FOX CHAPEL DEFEATS QUAKER VALLEY 44-43 FOR PBC CHAMPIONSHIP

The 25th annual PBC Summer League season ended with an amazing 4A-6A title game between Fox Chapel and Quaker Valley The Foxes came out of the gate fast and held on in the closing seconds to defeat Quaker Valley 44-43 behind Tourney MVP Eli Yofan’s 22 points.

Fox Chapel entered the tourney as the #3 seed from the central Catholic site and in one of the most amazing run in our championship tourneys history, defeated top seeds Vincentian, Lincoln Park and Montour to reach the final. Quaker Valley defeated Sto-Rox, North Catholic and defending champion Allderdice to reach the championship game.

Congratulations to Zach Skrinjar and his coaching staff for there 1st PBC Varsity Summer League Championship.

CORNELL COMES FROM BEHIND TO DEFEAT AMBRIDGE IN OT IN 4A/1A TITLE GAME

Congratulations to Coach Bill Sacco and the Cornell Raiders as they secured there 2nd consecutive PBC Summer League Championship with a 64-60 victory over Ambridge in the PBC 4A/1A championship game.

Ambridge took the lead 58-53 with 47 seconds left but missed 3 consecutive 1 and 1’s to allow Cornell to tie the score at the end of regulation. Cornell came out strong to start overtime and held on for the victory.

Cornell defeated Aliquippa in the semi finals while Ambridge defeated Avonworth in the other semi final. Congratulations Cornell on the victory and back to back championship summer league seasons.

ALLDERDICE WINS JV CHAMPIONSHIP OVER NA 42-37

Congratulations to Coach Devin Crummie and his staff at Allderdice for winning the 2019 PBC JV Championship with a come from behind 42-37 victory over North Allegheny.

Allderdice defeated Char Valley in the semifinals to make it to the championship game while Allderdice defeated Moon to make it to the finals.

Congratulations Dragons on winning the schools 1st PBC JV Championship.

NORTH CATHOLIC DEFEATS NORTH HILLS FOR 9TH GRADE CHAMPIONSHIP

Congratulations to Coach Dave DeGregorio and his staff at North Catholic for winning the 2019 PBC Freshman Championship with a come from behind 37-35 victory over North Hills.

North Catholic defeated Mt. Lebanon in the semifinals to make it to the championship game while North Hills defeated Sto-Rox to make it to the finals.

Congratulations North Catholic Trojans on winning the schools 1st PBC Freshman Championship.

25th PBC SUMMER LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIPS TIP OFF JUNE 24

The 25th annual PBC Summer League Championships will Tip Off Monday night June 24 at Montour High School.

Teams competed through out the spring and early summer in 10 gyms through out the area for the coveted invitation to the league championships.

The Summer League championships have proven to be an amazing sneak peak of the upcoming regular season and are some of the most highly contested games of the summer. The tournament culminates with the “Night of Champions” on June 27 at the Montour Athletic Center where we will crown Summer Champions in the JV, A-AAAA And AAA-AAAAAA divisions, the rising 9th grade championship game will be held June 26. We will also be naming the annual Wovchko Award winner as Summer League MVP.

Sorry for the slight delay as we were waiting for all of the end of the school year changes to finalize before posting, but please find below links to the 2019 PBC Summer League schedule. We have Varsity sites at Moon, Montour,Central Catholic, Ambridge and Cornell. We also have JV and Freshman leagues going on at Moon, North Hills, Avonworth and Sto-Rox Middle School.

The league will culminate with our 2019 PBC summer League championships June 24 thru 27 at Montour.
