VALINSKY NAMED CETRONE AWARD WINNER

Allderdice Head Coach Buddy Valinsky has been named the winner of the 2016 PBC Dick Cetrone Coach of the Year award.

The Allderdice 2015-16 season speaks for itself. Section Champion, City League Champion as well as PIAA State Runner-up finish against one of the countries toughest schedules. Truly one of the best seasons in recent memory and another outstanding addition to the Allderdice basketball tradition which Buddy not only maintained, but set a bar few will ever reach.

The Cetrone Award is named after legendary Sto-Rox Basketball Coach Dick Cetrone, who was the founding father of the Sto-Rox Basketball dynasty, winning 1 State championship, 5 WPIAL Championships as well as 10 Section Titles. Coach Cetrone’s 1983 State Championship team was Pennsylvania’s last 32-0 undefeated state champion. The feat has since been matched by New Castle (31-0 in 2014) and Aliquippa (30-0 in 2016).

Buddy will be presented with his award at the 2017 Pgh HS Classic at Montour High School on January 29, 2017

PBC MOURNS THE PASSING OF LUKE BLANOCK

On behalf of the entire Pittsburgh Basketball Club family, we would like to extend our condolences to the family of Luke Blanock, who lost his brave fight to cancer last evening.

This past January, we were honored to present Luke with the PBC Courage Award and equally honored to rename the award the Luke Blanock Courage Award. Luke was given the microphone to give a brief speech of approximately 4 minutes. In those 4 minutes, Luke was given an audience which featured  many of the legends of the game of basketball in Western PA. At the conclusion of his speech, Luke became one in his own right.

In his speech, Luke showed vitality for life, a drive to believe, the courage to never give up. May the light he shined on the path of life shine brightly for us all, and may we all drink deeply from his example and love of life.

God speed my friend. Until we meet again.
